These old sports movies were entertaining for a few moments, but they were often completely pointless, with absolutely no sense of the sport that had brought them to life.

In recent years, however, sports video has exploded into a fully fledged spectator sport phenomenon, with lots of different sports getting their own dedicated websites and magazines, television stations, and all kinds of special features. A sports movie is now a feature-length film, often with music, which uses sport as the major theme of the whole film. It’s usually a sports-themed story about a sports figure, game, or race, and is filmed in high definition quality. It’s often a commercial for a sport that the film tries to promote or endorse, and it will often reference or compare different sports to show how much each of them rely on certain aspects of their culture and how they continue to influence the people who follow them.

For example, the very last minute of the final seconds of almost any Ironman competition will include a spectacular bicycle kick by an athlete that is clearly the winner. That means it is important for any viewer to take a closer look at the athletes, both during the event itself and afterwards. There will be interviews with the athletes themselves, there will be photographs from previous events, and there will be a section looking at the impact that the athlete had on the wider society as a whole. All of this is important in the main article because it shows why the inclusion of sports stories into articles is so important.
