Sports (or sports) refers to any form of generally competitive physical activity that, through organised or casual participation, attempt to employ, enhance or refine physical skill and ability while also providing entertainment for participants, and occasionally, spectators. Sports can be divided into numerous categories to accommodate varying levels of competition, from amateur sports, to professionally organized sports events, to motor sports like horse racing. Sports can also refer to the equipment used for these sports, the training provided by the sport itself, and various paraphernalia involved in the pursuit of any form of sports activity. It should be noted that although sports are generally considered as a contact sport where players try to hurt each other using their bodies, there are in fact several kinds of sports that do not involve the use of the human body. These include archery, ballooning, curling, hockey, rugby, sailing, track cycling, polo and yachting.
The major benefit of participating in sports is that it allows you to feel part of a group that shares your interests, and improves your personal motivation and determination to keep on trying. However, there are several drawbacks to participating in sports, one of which is that it can become quite expensive, especially if you participate in organised sports competitions. Apart from this, sports can also be quite physically strenuous and some sports, particularly those involving high speeds and agility, can be quite painful. As well as this, in most sports, once the game has been started, it is impossible to stop playing, so that those who wish to rest during the course of the game have to resort to using sports massage and creams to relax themselves, which can be extremely costly.
There are several alternative forms of sports activity that are less expensive, in terms of both time and money spent, that can still provide the same amount of physical activities and mental stimulation that would be missed out on by participating in organised sports. For instance, games like golf, rugby and table tennis can all provide an excellent physical workout and mental stimulation that football and basketball would fail to provide. Similarly, games such as bridge, billiards and snooker can all provide an inexpensive way of keeping fit and having a lot of fun. The great thing about these types of games is that they do not have the same financial commitment as most sports. In addition to this, because most bridge and billiards tables are played on a table top, rather than on a hard floor surface, the physical activity is considerably less strenuous than that required by football and basketball.
