Role Playing Games
Games are an excellent way to relieve tension and stimulate thought. A game is typically a simple, rules-bound action. Games for children can be one-on-one competitive, group-versus-group, or large-scale collaborative activities. Games are particularly stimulating, even arousing, for young children because they offer a rewarding feeling of accomplishment through overcoming challenges or defeating rivals. A number of games are designed specifically for pre-school children through grade school children, while others are more universal and may appeal to adults as well.
Children’s card games such as Candy Land are simple to learn and play. In Candy Land, the objective is to clear all candy tiles from a square by matching their color to the corresponding square on the card. When anyone makes a roll, whether making a valid move or not, a piece of candy is dropped from the board. The first player to eliminate all candy pieces from their board is the winner.
Adults can benefit from playing games, too, whether for leisure or career purposes. For instance, researchers have found that playing video games raises the cognitive skills of players, which in turn may lead to increases in productivity and success in business and other fields. Playing games also helps players overcome the perceived obstacles of entering a game world. Games help players overcome perceived uncertainty about something, which changes the way people approach a problem and change the way they think about that problem when they are in the real world.
