The Psychological Science Of Beauty
We all know beauty; we all recognize beauty in everything from the beautiful home on the hill to the most beautiful and tasteful car. And still we marvel at their beauty in each and every form. Beauty is so important to the human soul that without it, there is no spirit, no life. Beauty has been defined as the subjective, universal and perfect state of any physical or non-physical object. According to the philosopher Aristotle the beauty of a thing can be described by its appearance, by its appeal and by the way it satisfies our intellectual and aesthetic senses.
Beauty is often defined as a personal quality of objects which makes these objects pleasant to see, feel or touch. These things may include sunsets, landscapes, humans and artistic works of art. Beauty, along with beauty, is the most important topic of aesthetics, among the major branches of science, one of its sub-topics, the discipline of science of beauty.
The psychologists have divided beauty into six aspects namely, physical attractiveness, facial attractiveness, emotional attractiveness, cultural attractiveness and physiological attractiveness. The psychologists also believe that there are four basic kinds of attractiveness namely, autogenic beauty, convergent beauty, dissimilar beauty and procreative beauty. Nowadays, beauty has become an important factor in choosing a mate for marriage, a person who is popularly chosen as a boyfriend or girlfriend, a president or prime Minister. In a nutshell, beauty is a matter of perception, and we should always bear in mind that beauty is a matter of self respect and not vanity.
