Different Types of Sport and Non-Physical Activity
Sports are one of the oldest sports that have been around for thousands of years; the reason for this is because they have a specific purpose – to entertain and encourage. Sport (or sports) can be broadly divided into two categories: team sports such as American football and soccer, and individual sports such as track running, weightlifting, fencing, tennis and cycling. Team sports require large investments by teams and organisations; individual sports can be picked up by anyone who is interested and have a little time to spare. Sports have many benefits, although the most obvious ones are physical stimulation, development of mental alertness and the improvement of a person’s physical condition.
Although they can sometimes be strenuous and physically draining, sports are a lot of fun! In most sports people are working against other teams or attempting to complete set goals, sometimes with help from equipment or another player. There is generally a certain element of skill involved in most sports. Sport (or physical activity) has a specific purpose and often a goal, although the two can sometimes be mixed.
Chess is a good example of one of the many non-physical sports that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. It requires a great deal of strategic thinking and a strong mental strength, as well as good physical ability to determine the best possible move. The USA offers various national and international competitions in chess, including the US Chess Championship, which is the most prestigious and difficult tournament in the world. Chess has proved a great source of entertainment and exercise for people of all ages and there is even a small but growing school of chess enthusiasts in the USA.
